A glimpse into the author’s life during a turbulent time, #16 is a 14-page zine of plant photography and poetry. After a mutual divorce and an estrangement, the zine documents her efforts to rebuild her connection to the world and learning to love again through her plants.
The dominating visual focus placed on the plants demonstrate the amount of time and care she put into maintaining the health of the plants and the sense of peace and stability they gave back to her. The blurry edges and close focus of the photos mimic the tunnel vision she experienced and how she looked to her plants for safety and comfort.
The accompanying poetry not only describe her daily life but also act like punctures into that peace. They are reminders that life continues and escape from the world, while sweet, is temporary.
